Knowing your app (part 29) Then Vs Now

In the rear case that some of you don't know what "DTJT" means. It means "Don't text Just talk". you will find it almost everywhere we write the name of the app. We're forever trying to pass a message. One day when we have headphones on and listening to music, we would get a message on just talk and reply without ever looking at your phone. Just Talk vision. I found an old screenshot of the profile page of the app and Thought I'd share it with you guys today. Its friday so I wish you the best of weekends ahead #tgif

Knowing your app (part 28). Record, upload share.. coming soon

Whats better than updating the world without showing your face or using mobile keyboad. New feature coming soon this week. Get ready for the update. Some people may find the app annoying when they first download it as they cannot use it because they do not have any friends or family member on it although i've been offering my username as their number 1 contact but that doesnt seem do the job of keeping users. Introducing once again, Just Talk Cast. Upload voice Notes on the go using real time voice changers and share it on your story page (Cast page) and on facebook. How about that for a change. Record, upload and share... The cast page would represent the story and discover page on Snapchat, Where your story would be called casts and casts will be voice messages only, and the discover page would be replaced by podcasts.

Knowing your app (part 26). Blocking, flagging and deleting your contacts

Hello everyone, I'ts time for a little more tutorial on how to use the app. Many people have not been to the settings page/screen so have paid little attention to the fact that it is possible to block, delete and report users for indecent use of the app. Deleting a user is pretty easy and all have been plainly labelled in the settings page meeting all apple's specification. Many of us may already know how to get to the settings page but for many of us who don't and for the new users, I would let us know how.

Before i begin what is Just Talk DTJT all about? It is a straight up voice messaging app for voice messages only. No texting whatsoever in the app. It is the first of its kind and it allows users change ow they sound using voice filters. Users may listen to their messages as many times as they please but all messages would be deleted after 24 hours. and this is regardless f wether they've been opened or not.

Now back to the reason why many of use are reading this post. it is pretty easy to delete, block and flag a user. a blocked user would no longer be able to contact you and a deleted user would be taken of your contact list. If you block a user it is easy to unblock them aswell. However re-adding previous contacts on the app after deleting them would require you to send them a friend request and wait for them to accept the request or vice versa.

Getting to the setting page/screen is really easy all you have to do is tap the icon on the top left of the screen (this icon is a double bolt and can be seen from the settings page itself, the profile page, the record page and the timeline page). In the settings page you would find your login information and the list of all your contacts. At the top of this list you would find the options to block, flag and delete any of your contacts tapping in the respective box would either delete or block the contact contact you wish to block or delete. At the moment any issue related to flagging a contact would be looked into within 24 hours (you would be notified if there are any changes to this procedure you would be notified and more information can be found in out terms and conditions page. picture od the setting page are shown bellow.

We hope you keep enjoying our new innovative app. Sincere apologies to the lack of notification function at the moment. All will be up and running with new features in the coming week. Happy mother's day weekend.

Knowing your app (part 25) My story. developing an app with zero development skills.

In the past few weeks, I have been getting wonderful feedbacks on my app. It is far from what it should be but it has been doing better than I expected and i'm very grateful to everyone who has been supportive so far. Many people do not know how long it has taken me to build the app and many make several hypothesis of how I have managed on. The Idea of Just talk came to me more than a year ago. At this time I had no app development skill. I knew nothing about coding languages and how they codes actually worked. But I had with me the most brilliant idea ever. How did I know this was a brilliant idea? easy, I believed in it, I told people and I entered it in a completion. The feedbacks from people were both encouraging and depressing but I worked on the criticized points of the app improved the already good parts and best of all I was successful in the competition.

At that point it felt I have gotten a certificate that said to me confidently that my app would change the world. With this in my mind the next stage was to build the app. With no app development skills I obviously needed to find help. I spoke to a couple of people and I was advised to find  co-founder who was good with app coding. How was a fresh graduate who studied BSc economics and MSc Entrepreneurship going to find someone to join him in a crazy new project. Not being in University anymore just makes things harder as there are less people to ask questions. All I thought I had was the brain of think of the idea and that was it. Well I studied entrepreneurship at a good university so I had to do something somehow. Perhaps using the degree somehow would be a good start. I decided to begin my hunt for a co-founder. As I was succesful in my competition i had some acces to university and it's facilities so became a stalker at the computer science department at the University of Liverpool trying to find someone to join me. I spoke to a couple of people and they loved the idea but the challenges and the work was enough to put them away. Most of them were students so I didn't really get the best of help there as they had their university work to bother about also. Then I went on Facebook and linkedin perhaps a few messages to a couple of people should find me a co-founder. Fortunately I did find two people who were students. I was able to spark some interest in them, but they had university work to do and coding challenges deterred them. It wasn't totally a loss at time this time because one of them did teach me one or two things about coding. The moment I discovered I could grasp some knowledge about coding I decided to do some more learning. next thing I knew I found myself watching coding videos on YouTube.

I started learning one or two things about app development. It didn't take me long enough to learn that my dyslexia was going to become a deterrent. Reading and writing long words were just not my thing. Thus didn't stop me from writing 40 pages of words describing my app, all its features and however button should work in details though. After a number of YouTube videos it was time to start getting things done. I knew I couldn't do it alone because even after learning one language I had to code the server end anyways. I decided I would do something with my newly learnt skills and begin creating my app.

I decided to divide the development of my app into different stages. Front end, back end and Server end. Inbetween those ends I also divided into other smaller stages. I went on LinkedIn to scout for developers. At this stage I was no longer looking for co-founders as I had given up on that move and decided to do things myself. I needed to find a way to create the app in the cheapest way ever. I began messaging people I believed would be able to develop parts of the app for pretty low prices. Learning how coding works made me look and feel knowledgeable and was able to convince the people I spoke to that what I was asking for was little and didn't require much work. prior to speaking to this people I had already completed my very long description of how everything about the app works and had gone on pain to draw how the app should look. (Talk about designing skills) so yeah, I basically designed everything about my app. My brother was able to convert it from the paint look to a more realistic look on photoshop. I spoke to someone who made me a fully functional front end for a very cheap price. I went on freelancers.com to scout for developers. obviously no one very good was going to do it for cheap. If I at all did find someone who could do it for a cheap price, it would mean I was going to find someone who only just learnt how to code and was going to use my app as practice. To be fair I didn't mind so I went for it. Most of the new app developers who were happy to develop the app for a cheap price where Indians and language was a great barrier, explain exactly what you wanted was a task on its own. I had to break every stage down in very little bits so they could understand and begin developing, in many cases I've had to do some research on how to get along with certain parts of the app and teach the developers how to do it. It didn't go very smoothly if  I'm honest. I went through three different sets of developers with one set containing a minimum of about three people. Changing hands from one developer to another was also a challenge as it too about one month for some of the new developers to get used to the codes and understand where everything are.

The challenges just never stopped but I managed anyways. I went through so many even after finding the developers who are still the best till date. I have managed to create the app and made it available on the app store. updates are still flooding in daily and will keep coming to improve user experience. Just Talk, is one of a kind. none that have ever existed and I very much love all it's users. Those I know and those plenty people who I've never met. Bless you all and I wish you all the best of days.

Knowing your app. (part 24). Happy Sunday

First of all, I Just want to take this time to say HAPPY SUNDAY to everyone. Best wishes today and we hope you have a wonderful week ahead. I worked tirelessly last week and had no time to blog. 6am to 10pm daily. I'm now back and ready to blog again. The app "JUST Talk" is currently experiences notification issues. We're trying to find solutions to that problem because it seems to keep coming and going. Some times it works and some times it doesn't, however in the past two days, it has been the same thing. It has not worked at all. I'm certain it will be sorted by Monday (tomorrow).  we've also been experiencing great increase in the number of daily app downloads. I'm super excited about that and we expect this will keep improving. In the next coming days we would be uploading a new version of the app to the app store. It will contain, Facebook login and Just talk Cast. We're also still working on new filters which would be available soon. 32 new filters are projected to be available by the end of the year.

Hello world, hope we've all had a great weekend. I'm guessing most of us have been able to update to the latest Just Talk app version that was made available in the weekend. Recently we learnt that Just Talk would enable Facebook Login and Facebook sign up with Cast recording (Click here to find out more about Casts). However, there's something else thats new and was missed out, Facebook share. This feature will allow users to share both their cast messages and their Just talk contact's cast messages. This should be expected to be made available in the coming update. Wish you a wonderful Week ahead. Happy Talking.

Knowing you app (Part 22) New Update 1.3 now available on the app store. Get Updating

Hello and Happy Sunday to everyone. Some of you may already know this as it has been available since yesterday evening, but to those who don't We have released a new update containing some new features. Bug fixes, messages will now send a little bit faster (less chances for server error). we have expanded our server space because we almost had a full server a couple of days ago, Notification badge issues solved (the numbers would now appear correctly in relation to the number of unopened messages not just a default 7, New icons for "robot" (it may no longer be called robot as we're currently working on a much realistic robot voice), a new filter which is similar to normal voice, but a lot louder (some people complained the normal voice was a bit harder to hear when they're outdoors and want to make their friends listen to a message they received. I hope you all enjoy the new update. Other new ones coming soon. Happy Sunday once again. I wish everyone a wonderful Week ahead!!!

Knowing your App (Part 21). Introducing "Cast" (audio story and podcast: Record and share).

Almost everyone has been jumping into the "Story" wagon lately, It first became popular with Snapchat, Then Instagram decided to jump on the idea followed by WhatsApp. Perhaps I would be doing the same, but nope! I wouldn't. Just talk would do something a little bit different. Introducing "Just Talk Cast". The filter page will no longer be for one purpose only as it was never planned for just filters only. The filter page would now be used for Podcasts, Casts and filter and particular video activities  (and no user will not be able to upload their personal videos). Podcasts and videos will not be available till future dates. however Casts will be available in the next coming weeks. The filter page will now be called the "Activity Page". As time goes  by, this page would become more and more interesting starting with Casts. Cast may be considered as "Story" because its all about recording a message everyone can see. In our case, it will be audio messages only. The option to record and share cast messages will be situated on the "record page". Amongst your contacts in "Record page" will be "Cast". It would be at the top of your contact list and different from how your contacts look so it shouldn't be hard to spot. To upload  Cast to the activity page, You'll simply need to select it in the same way you do when you're recording a message, record your message and hit the "send" icon. Check your Activity page to view cast messages by you or any of your contacts. You would also be able to see how many times your cast message has been played from. So ladies and gentlemen, Tell me, how interesting is That!?

Knowing your app (Part 20) : Facebook signup and log in. Good News

Good news for those people who have had hard times when it comes to signing up and logging in and those in futre who will not have those hard times with the app. Soon we would be able to sign up and log into our already existing account (as long as it is connected to facebook). As its now too old school to oldschool and time consuming to spend a few seconds to sign up/ fill forms, I have decided to integrate fcaebook to Just talk - DTJT. Time is money anyways so I guess we all have good excuses (well thats's my excuse).

I am part of my app and in many cases I am Just Talk as I represent the all the app. So as your learn about the app you get to learn about me also and some of the things I get up to. Yesterday I got an apportunity to give a speech at a society meeting at the university of liverpool (I was once a member of this society. Liverpool Entrepreneurship Network Society). It felt good to meet fellow aspiring entrepreneurs and app developers. I also recieved wonderful feebacks also and was glad to asist in anyway I could. There were times where I was in that situation also, when all I had was the idea and no product to show. Most ideas stop at just an idea even after all the possitive feedbacks they may recieve. Many times it is as a result of lack of funds and lack of connections as sometimes it's just about meeting the right people. Amonsgts the feebacks I got was how stressful it was to signup. also I was informed signup page wasn't too friendly. Luckily I had already started working on that. The fun days have only just begun but the struggle still continues. have a wonderful weekend all!...

Knowing your app (part 19). the blurry effect : What does that mean?

For the already existing users who may have already noticed or not, the settings page/screen, the profile page/screen and the record page/screen seems to have a very similar theme. That theme is what we call the blurry effect. All three pages mentioned above apear to be floating on some silver patch. If you touch any part of the silver patch, you would be taken back to the back to the Homepage/landing page/timeline page of the app. Some users do not know how to get back to the timeline page once they've clicked on any of the icons at the top of the screen. The idea if the blurry effects which will be optimised in future indicates that all three pages mentioned above apear on top of the home screen/page. The pictures below higlighes the arears. Try now to explore.

Knowing your app (part 18) change how you sound: Voice filter

Sincere apologies for not being able to post in a while, I have been unbelievably busy for the past few days.. But anyways let's go back to what we came here to read.

So far we've learnt about the app screens, how to add new friends, how to listen to your messages and how to send messages. As one of the app's major features is the ability to change how you sound we've decided to teach you how to do that in this post. This would probably be fun for most people. Using the voice filters is relatively easy also. To use to filters in the app we have to be familiar with the filter page (picture would be shown below). Getting to the filter page is really easy. once you've been logged in the app, simply swipe left from any page/screen in the app and you would be taken to the filter page which would contain a selection of filters (more would be added as time goes buy). select anyone you please and hit the "back" icon to go back to timeline page/screen, Record a new message and experience the difference. Note: upon selection of desired filter, a text would be displayed at the bottom of the screen showing the name of the filter you have selected.

Another way to get to the filter page/screen is from the timeline page/screen. Tap on the icon (double arrow pointing to the left) at the bottom right of the screen and you would be taken to the "filter page"

announcement: there might be some delays with one of our updates because we are currently exploring a couple of voice filters and working on the noise some of our users hear in many of their messages.

Knowing your app (Part 17) how to record and send messages

In the previous post we learnt how to search and add new contacts. Now that we've learnt how to do that, let's learn how to send messages. Just like everything about the app, sending a new message is pretty simple (there will be diagrams to elaborate on me words). Once you've logged into the app, you will notice three icons on the top of the screen from any part of the app except the "filter page" (A more elaborate explanation about this three icons can also be learnt from the previous post and older post). They are located at the top of all but one of the app page and they are called (top left to top right), the settings icons, the profile page/screen icon and the record page/screen icon. For this tutorial we would be talking about the "record new page/screen". More information about the "profile page can also be found in the previous post.

At this point we would love to assume that you have made some new friends or just have your old ones on the app. Perhaps I am one of your new friends (keshjacobs is my username on the app, feel free to add me). So back o the matter at hand. You have made some new friends and you wish to start talking to them. Or you have already received one or more messages from them and you wish to reply (if you add me "keshjacobs" I would most-likely have already send you a voice note saying a big thank you for adding me and downloading the app). Once again we return to the reason you might be reading this post. To send a new message, simple tap on the icon on the top right corner of the screen (the record new icon). you would then be taken to a page (the record page) showing a list of your contacts and a button for recording new messages (note the main  three navigation icons would still remain at the top of the screen). To record a new message simply tap on the person you wish to send a message to (this would tick the circle besides the name) then tap and hold the button below the name to record a new message. let go off the icon once you're done recording your message. Your recorded message will play back immediately then tap "send" to send the message to the selected contact. If you do not wish to send the message you  just recorded, simply tap "cancel" to delete it. Taping send will take you back to the timeline page (more details of timeline page in older posts). here you would see the status of the message you have just sent. You will get a notification at the bottom of the screen's page indicating the message has been sent. For best performance and to ensure the message reaches the receiver, please wait in the current screen (timeline screen) until you're notified message has been sent. Once you have been notified about this, the information that says sending besides the receiver's name would change to "sent".
